Top10-Jan2026

  1. End of the Tour” - There is a non-trivial chance that you may need to be a fan of David Foster Wallace to enjoy this, but the dialogue is so spot on, well because it comes from interviews with him. In any case, nothing happens. They drive around, they site around, they talk. And yet, you hang on every word, phrase and weird look, just wondering what will happen next.
  2. Hearing Phil Collins’s “Easy Lover” at a hockey game of all places and it must be said, the pairing was unprecedented and exquisite.
  3. She Came to Me” - Psychological rom-com? Twists you would never expect and laughs even less? Yup.
  4. Bandcamp - I come and go with Bandcamp. That is fine. But there is something about the experience of browsing through music and people commenting on incredibly obscure and independent tranches of it that just warms your cockles a bit.
  5. Spanish orange tea
  6. Looking for a way into a life of Linux - I have no idea where this has come from, likely some sort of well I’m not vegan so how do I cosplay moral superiority thing. It’s like a disease, a FOSS mind-worm burrowing into every nook and cranny of my feeble brain. Oh, I need to get out of this ecosystem, well and then that means ditching the iPhone, oh but wait, it’s so much better, sane, secure, will reverse climate change and I’m pretty sure will make you breakfast in bed on alternate Tuesdays. That is if you can get it working.
  7. Notebook LLM - I remember when this thing came out. It was billed as a you chuck stuff into it and then it gives you a podcast tool, which sounded like the dumbest thing ever. Having spent an afternoon with a kid’s history lessons and this, I see the genius. I understood the October Revolution through this two person chat I think better than I could having read about it. The power of audio is something that I never realised.
  8. Chosic - Remember LastFM? Remember when people were actually building things because it was cool and music mattered? This feels like that. You have playlists built for you, explore genre maps, all that fun stuff.
  9. Ditching the feeds - It is so hard resisting the feeds. I don’t know what to do with myself. I sit there, in a short swath of time, time being taken out of my increasingly shorter and shorter life, and I don’t know what to do with myself. It’s insane. I get fidgety, eyes darting about the screen needing to go through a list of shit that is on a conveyer belt of misery before me as I have the innate urge to just archive, browse, archive, skim even quicker, archive, delete, lose brain cells. Rinse and repeat. The sad thing is that I’m not even talking about social media, this is using RSS which is supposed to help people in poor countries and cure cancer and save democracy on the side.
  10. Graphite - I love this. Someone finally made a procedural 2D graphics thing that does everything. Imagine SideFX Houdini crossed with Affinity two years ago. I think you can do animations in it, procedurally as well? Wait, all those psychedelic WinAmp skins I’ve had kicking around in my brain for decades can finally be made a reality.
