So this is where the wall used to be, and this is basically one of the last bits of it still intact. 331 years ago there was a whole load of Ottoman soldiers trying to get to the other side of this wall. Roughly 150,000 marched from Istanbul to make a siege that I’m now writing a comedy about. In celebration of the glorious defense of Vienna after caning a schnitzel one night and tracing the steps and the places I’m writing about I sat here, had an extremely mediocre ice cream and wondered just what the hell it was like then.
